Persevere
One of my most rewarding projects and one that is close to my heart is my work with PERSEVERE, a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower incarcerated women and men, to develop skills needed to be employable and succeed outside of prison. It was important for me to offer free mindfulness teachings in under-served communities. What began as a volunteer opportunity when I became a guest speaker offering free mindfulness into men and women’s prisons across the country quickly evolved. Women who connected with my story of using mindfulness practices to overcome my own hardships once released from prison asked if I could mentor and coach them to handle the stressors of reintegration into family, the workforce, and society. I meet bi-weekly with these fabulous women to help them navigate reentry to life.
